Our November Meeting: Saturday, November 12th

The topic is Flash Fiction. Low Country SinC President Donna Kortes and VP Tina Whittle will lead a roundtable discussion on writing and publishing in this popular genre. We'll be sharing tips, reading some flash fiction, and trying our hand at writing some too. We'll also have news about our December social, and information from SinC National on some upcoming events here in the Savannah area.

After the meeting, we'll be eating lunch at Savannah Coffee Roasters for those interested in hanging out and talking further.

Our September Meeting: Saturday, Sept. 10th

Please join us Saturday, September 10th from 10-12 noon for our September meeting. We'll be in the Morrison Room upstairs at Savannah Coffee Roasters.

The topic is Social Media 101. Low Country SinC VP Tina Whittle will lead an explanation and Q&A on the basics of Facebook and Twitter. We'll tackle getting started, setting up profiles and pages, connecting with other social media users and online communities, and best practices and handy tips. Bring your laptops and smart phones and let's connect!

After the meeting, we'll be eating lunch at Savannah Coffee Roasters for those interested in hanging out and talking further.

Writer's Workshop on August 20th

Hank Phillipi Ryan is coming to Jacksonville! And we're invited!

 

Our sister chapter in Jacksonville, Florida Sisters in Crime, is inviting our chapter and all our members to join them on August 20 for a Writers Workshop with Hank Phillipi Ryan.The workshop is a one day affair and will be held at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. The cost is $40 a person, which includes lunch, for all paid-up Sisters in Crime members.

Looking Ahead

Many thanks to LC SInC President Donna Kortes for her marvelous presentation on the Myers-Briggs personality system and how writers can use it as a character-building tool. We had tons of fun, and I learned how each of you would kill me if you decided to do so.

Our April Meeting

Please join us Saturday, April 9th from 10-12 noon for our monthly meeting. Our topic -- shared by member Rebecca Butler -- will be a report from the Sisters in Crime LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION conference held last weekend in LA. Come learn the ins and outs of Hollywood and getting your work on the screen!

We'll be breaking halfway through the meeting to order lunch for delivery at noon for those interested in staying after the meeting to eat and talk.

Welcome to 2016! We got the new year off to a great start with Jon Bryant's Q&A session in January. Now in February we have the Savannah Book Festival, which we will be attending as our monthly meeting. There are many great crime writers of both fiction and non-fiction speaking, so check out the schedule:

Our January 16th Meeting -- Research Q&A with Historian Jon Bryant

We are very excited to have noted scholar, historian, and writer Jonathan M. Bryant as our guest for our January meeting.

Dr. Bryant is the author of Dark Places of the Earth: The Voyage of the Slave Ship Antelope, which is a dramatic narrative of slavery, corruption, and the law in the young American republic. Often described as the most important Supreme Court decision no one has ever heard of, the Antelope decision set the stage for the decades-later Amistad case.
 
We hope you'll join us as Dr. Bryant shares his techniques for finding sources on true crime, and using those stories as the basis for fictional accounts of crime. "Fiction that reflects reality," he says, "especially when it is historical, is the most convincing fiction to me."
